How really RELEVANT is the NSMQ?

I have been a stern critic of the National Science and Maths Quiz program. And I support all other critics of the program. I have said in plain terms that the NMSQ is probably one of the most useless programs of our time. The impact and success of a program such as the NSMQ should not be measured by the number of participants who are able to secure scholarships to study abroad. If that is the measure, then what about all the thousands of ordinary students who secured scholarships on their own? If the owners and supporters of the NSMQ want us to give any credits to the program, they should show us the impact of the program in developing and implementing local solutions to the numerous challenges and problems in Ghana, no matter how little. That is where the real impact is. Not the number of participants studying abroad. Until then, the program is as useless as any other non impactful programs on television except Economics for its owners. I support the young lady who criticized the program sometime ago, and has now, again, become the subject of attacks and comparison with one of the NSMQ participants studying abroad. There is nothing Novel about “Chew and Pour” or students ability to “cram” and recite back on national television.
